Pongal Celebrations The vibrant celebrations of “Namma Gramiya Pongal Thiruvizha” echoed through our school on January 13th, 2024. The school embraced a traditional village ambiance, students adorned in colorful traditional attire, and a unique “no bag day.” The event featured a variety of attractions, including captivating performances of Karagattam, Mayil Aatam, Kavadi Aatam, Oyil Aatam, Maadu Aatam, Poikalkuthirai Aatam, Naiyandi Melam, Kattai Kaal Aatam, and Puli Aatam by skilled village artists. Students actively participated in creative contests, showcasing their talents in pot painting and Pongal-themed Rangoli designs. These painted pots were displayed in prominent places throughout the school. Certificates were awarded to the winners. The “Haute Couture” competition – fancy dress – the traditional dress of any South Indian state, added an elegant touch as students proudly displayed traditional South Indian attire, celebrating their rich heritage. Cash prizes were awarded to the winners. An intra-school chess competition was also conducted and winners from each level were awarded a trophy and certificate. Cultural events, accompanied by traditional beats, included a delightful Karagam overhead procession. Complimentary food stalls contributed to the festive spirit, offering sweet Pongal, Ven Pongal, Masal Vadai, Sundal, Sambar, chutney and sugarcane juice, fostering a sense of love and community. A specially arranged DJ for students enhanced the festivities, providing enjoyment for all. The gala concluded on a positive note, leaving everyone filled with joy and a deep sense of cultural unity.
